This is a Motor Sports Edition (MSE) Trans Am built by Mecham Racing (MR) in Glendale AZ. Mecham racing entered these Trans Am cars in the Trans Am series in 1982, and sold street versions to help with the costs of running the races. And in the first year of racing, the Mecham Racing MSE Trans Am won the championship series!! Ironic that Pontiac, and the Trans Am car, had never won the series, even though the car was names after the race.
Here are some pictures of my 1982 MSE Trans Am I bought new in 82. Mecham Racing sold this street versions through Pontiac Dealers. Accourding to Mecham Racing, only 500 1982 MSE Trans Am were built. Of those, less then 10 were red in color. The remaining cars were all white in color, matching the actual race car. Each car had a serial plaque on the inside, and this one was listed as number 48. I had this car for about 10 years, until bad health overcame me. During those ten years, it never saw rain, and was always garaged. The car had about 12,000 miles when I sold it. I miss it, and think about it all the time. I never thought I would see it, or get another one again. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
My Son was reading Craigslist ads, when he saw one of interest. He told me about this 1982 Red MSE for sale, and it was in nice shape, and real cheap. Here are the four small pictures included in the ad. You could see it still had the original rear spoiler, rims, and MSE Logos.
After calling the owner and speaking for awhile, I spoke with my son about this car. We came up with a plan, and decided to go look at the car. The car was actually better than we expected. The owner had receipts for a new Jasper motor, $3100., transmission rebuild, $1700., and $3100. in Guldstrand Motorsports suspension work. The motor and transmission have less than 15,000 miles on them. More Pictures from the owner

For 1983, more color options were available, and now included a two tone paint scheme.
On the track with racing MSE cars
Before the MSE in 1982, Mecham Racing was responsible for the Macho Trans Am cars in the 70's and 80's. Here are some real cars, and their brochures.
